Privacy Policy

How Unify collects, uses and protects your information. Last updated 26 October 2026.

The short version

  • We never ask for your university password.
  • Your study data is private to your account. We don’t sell it, show ads or use trackers.
  • You can delete your account and all your data at any time in Settings.
  • The demo uses fictional data that never leaves your browser.

1. Who we are

Unify (“Unify”, “we”, “us”) is a study companion for university students, currently in a pilot in the United Arab Emirates and run by its founding team. This policy explains what information Unify collects through studywithunify.ae and the Unify app, why, and the choices you have. If you have a question, email us at studywithunify@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

When you create an account: your first and last name, email address and password. Your password is stored by our sign-in provider in a protected (hashed) form — we can never see it.

What you add to Unify: your university (chosen from a list), program, year of study, study goals and settings, and anything you enter about your studies — courses, class times, instructors’ names and contact details, topics, assignments, exams, calendar events, study sessions, notes, messages you send to the assistant, and course files you upload (PDF, Word, PowerPoint or text) together with the text Unify reads from them.

When you join the waitlist or contact us: your name, email address, your role (for example student or faculty), and optionally your university, organization and message.

Technical information: sign-in cookies that keep you signed in, and standard logs kept by our hosting and sign-in providers (such as IP address, browser type and the time of a request) for security and troubleshooting.

What we don’t collect: we never ask for your university password, and Unify doesn’t connect to university systems yet, so we don’t receive grades or records from your university. The demo uses fictional data that stays in your own browser — we don’t receive it.

3. How we use your information

We use your information only to run Unify for you:

  • to create and secure your account and keep you signed in;
  • to save your courses, deadlines, plans and other study data so you can see them on any device;
  • to send emails you need, such as confirming your email address, sign-in links and password resets;
  • to reply to messages and contact people on the waitlist about Unify;
  • to fix problems, prevent abuse and improve Unify.

We don’t sell your information, we don’t show ads, and we don’t use advertising or analytics trackers.

4. The study assistant

When you ask the assistant something, Unify sends your question, the recent messages in that conversation, the name and topics of the course, upcoming deadlines and the relevant text from your materials to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI model, so it can write the answer. We only send what’s needed for that one answer, and never your password or account details.

Anthropic doesn’t use this information to train its models, and keeps it only for a limited time under its commercial terms. Answers are saved in your chat history only if “Keep chat history” is on. You can stop the assistant from using your materials at any time in Settings → Privacy. Each student has a daily limit of assistant answers. The demo’s assistant runs inside your browser and sends nothing.

5. Who we share it with

We don’t share your information with anyone except these service providers, who process it for us under their own security and privacy terms:

  • Supabase — sign-in, database and file storage, where your account, study data and uploaded files are kept (data centre in Tokyo, Japan).
  • Vercel — hosts the website and app (servers in the United States and a worldwide delivery network).
  • Anthropic — writes the assistant’s answers, as described above (United States).
  • Resend — sends account emails such as confirmations and password resets (Ireland, EU).

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users. If Unify is ever reorganized or sold, we’ll tell you before your information moves under a different privacy policy.

6. Where your information is stored

Your information is stored and processed outside the UAE, in the locations listed above. Our providers protect it in transit (HTTPS) and at rest (encryption), and we choose providers with strong security practices.

7. How long we keep it

  • Your account, study data and files: until you delete them or your account. Deleting your account removes your account, profile, study data and uploaded files straight away.
  • Waitlist sign-ups and messages: until the pilot ends, or sooner if you ask us to delete them.
  • Logs: kept by our providers for short periods, typically a few days to a few weeks.
  • Backups: if our providers hold backup copies, they’re removed on their normal schedule.

8. Your choices and rights

You’re in control of your information:

  • See and correct it: everything you’ve added is visible and editable in the app.
  • Delete it: go to Settings → Account → Delete account. To remove a waitlist sign-up or message, email us.
  • Get a copy: use Settings → Privacy → Export my data, or email us.
  • Limit AI use: turn off “Allow AI to use my course materials” in Settings → Privacy.

Depending on where you are, data protection laws — including the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021), where it applies — may give you further rights, such as objecting to or restricting how we use your information. To use any of these rights, email studywithunify@gmail.com. We’ll reply within 30 days.

9. How we protect it

  • All connections to Unify use HTTPS.
  • Database and storage rules make sure each student can only reach their own data and files, and files are only shared through download links that expire after a minute.
  • Passwords are never stored in readable form, and we never ask for your university password.
  • Only the founding team can access Unify’s systems, and only when needed to run and support the service.

10. Cookies and browser storage

Unify only uses what it needs to work: sign-in cookies that keep you signed in, a small cookie that remembers when you’re using the demo, and your browser’s local storage to hold the demo’s fictional data. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.

11. Children’s privacy

Unify is designed for university students and adult learners, and is not intended for children. We don’t knowingly collect information from children. If we learn that we have, we’ll delete it. If you believe a child has given us information, email us at studywithunify@gmail.com.

12. Changes to this policy

We’ll update this page when Unify changes how it handles information, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.

13. Contact us
